About Us

Fathom Fishing was built out of a passion for saltwater, data + seafood.

Fathom Fishing's first and foremost goal is to bring critical environmental data to our working waterfronts. We've all seen first hand how impactful data can be to sports, science and lobstering. A rising tide raises all boats. Our mission is to democratize access to that data and enable all stakeholders of our working waterfronts to continue to grow and prosper in the 21st century.

Andy Whitman

Andy Whitman is from Swans Island, Maine. An island about 6 miles off of Acadia National Park, home to almost exclusively lobster fishermen. While Andy did not go into lobstering himself, the work ethic and passion inspired him greatly.Andy left Swans Island to study mechanical engineering at Boston University where he worked in a lab developing and testing liquid rocket engines. Since then, he has worked with incredible companies like SpaceX and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, but found more excitement among innovative startups in bluetech.Out of the excitement for bluetech, experience building in incredible companies, and inspiration from the hard working lobster fleet, Fathom Fishing was born.

Fathom Fishing is focused on developing and deploying two mission critical environmental monitoring buoys: MB-X and PB-X. MB-X measures a number of water quality parameters that can advance our understanding of aquaculture. PB-X is designed to give critical, real-time site security information to anyone with gear in the water.

Today we are closing out prototype development and planning on ramping into our first batches of pilot buoys. Our pilot project is expected to start in June 2023 and we are really excited to work with our early adopting customers to continuously incorporate feedback, perfect our platform and snack on scrumptious seafood!
